Beginnings
Since I am the last person in America to do stuff, here I am, the last person in America to have a blog. This blog, KateAndDally, dates me to the late 80s and a TV show that some of you might have watched, "Kate and Allie," about two life-long female friends newly divorced who move in together temporarily. The show ran for something like 5 years and starred Jane Curtin as Allie and Susan St. James as Kate.
Fast-forward to 2007. I am Mrs. Offering, known to some of you as the spouse of the libertarian blogger Unqualified Offerings. I am still paranoid enough to limit use of full names and will probably stick to the names UO has selected for the family...Offering Boy, the Littlelest Offering and Unqualified Dog. This blog is primarily about Unqualified Dog, AKA Dally, and the newest canine addition to the family, Kate.
Unqualified Dog and Kate are border collies, a highly intelligent and highly energetic breed of herding dogs that many feel aren't meant for companion animal status. UO and I have made it work with Dally, despite the chew holes in the kitchen floor and the cabinets, and we'll make it work with Kate as well, but no joke, these dogs aren't for everyone, and I can't help but feel for those dedicated BC breeders, farmers, cattlemen and others who despair of us suburbanites' corrupting their beloved animals.
Dally was born in VA in August 1994, which makes her almost 13 at the time of this writing. She ran not quite 7 miles with UO last weekend. Kate is not quite 8 weeks. I am 43 and like Dally, have a birthday in August. UO is 46, and a sexy beast. Offering Boy is almost 11 and the Littlelist Offering will be 7 in June. UO works in Virginia for a telecom company as a financial analyst. I work in the District for a trade association as a political action committee consultant and a political analyst. The kids are students and the dogs bark; or in Kate's case, yip.
Like I said, the blog will mostly deal with the dogs...but it will ooze into other subjects as well, I'm sure...like politics, raising kids in montgomery county, md, long-term female friendships, how wonderful and smart my kids are, how wonderful and smart my dogs are, how lucky I am with my choice of irritating husband, etc...also Brownies (as in Girl Scouts) and wine. I always seem to consume more wine on Brownie nights. Why might this be?
I welcome your comments and thoughts. But I'm not UO, so if you're checking us out for heady political theory, fuggedabowddit. I voted for Bush the first time and I regret it. I'd sign an impeachment petition today if it didn't mean giving implicit support to known loonies. I wonder, is that the definition of modern political independence in America in the 21st century? Anyway, welcome; if you're interested, hang around. I hope to figure out how to post pix of the doggies and let's face it, they're more interesting than we are, aren't they?
