I had some help cleaning up the backyard rose bush this afternoon.
It's hot today and the turned earth was nice and cool...and then I poured in the fertilizer and dumped lovely stinky mulch on it, oh what a treat.
The Noble Beast set an example of good gardening behavior.
We have a bird's nest in our rubbermaid shed. It's been there for several years and is pretty much used every spring. We saw the eggs before they hatched and they were blue, so I guess the Robin Family is in residence. Today I was able to get a picture of a hatchling. The beak is visible but hard to distinguish, it's such a straight line. We also have a family of sparrows living in our dryer vent. I would think the hot air would kill the babies, but who knows. Sparrows are tough little guys.

Update:
Mama just showed up to feed her babies ... I'm sitting about 25 feet away from them and I can hear the squealing. Turns out they're sparrows after all, unless there are such things as Samaritan Sparrows that feed other birds' babies.
