This is Dally: She is calm (unless you're the mailman, or walking on her sidewalk, or ringing the doorbell, or yelling or even just speaking loudly).
This is Kate: For some reason this picture reminds me of Civil War soldiers posing for Matthew Brady or one of his ilk; possibly it's the improbably cocked ears; or the way her collar rings her neck that looks like 19th century starched collar points; and don't even get me started on her expression, that hypnotized stare...
And this is what Kate does: And believe me, it was much worse before I washed the dripping blood off...and no amount of yipping or yelling or growling or throwing or rolling her teaches her NOT TO DO IT.
Try using a shaker can (soft drink can with some pennies inside and the opening taped closed.) Have the can available at all times, and use it instantly to punish the dog for jumping up or nipping. Shake it suddenly near her ear just as she jumps up.
Dogs have really sensitive ears, and they hate the noise. It cured my ADD afflicted boxer of jumping on people after about six shaker-can episodes. We had previously spent six months stepping on his toes, backing away suddenly, saying "no" or "down", or screaming "bad dog", all to no effect.
The can is a bit unkind, but so are claw marks on innocent children.
We have cans all around the house. Usually we just point to the can and canines stop whatever annoying thing they are doing.
